Monday 18th August – Windsurf **** The Manor at Felixstowe – sunny
start then cloudy.
Fin – 25.80 knot max, 23.80 knot ave, 16.09 knot hour, 19.82 knot mile,
48.29 km., 16,41 knot alpha.
F2 282 Ride with Tushingham Bolt 5.5m and 36 fin.
After a fanastic weekend celebrating my wife Maggies 63rd Birthday which
involved both the Grandchildren Maeav and Arlo:) I was keen to make the
most of todays breeze, in fact its looking very windy on Tues/Weds! With
low water around 8 this morning I was hoping to get out on the fin and go
for a good hour hoping it was not too windy as it was looking like I would
be by myself as most other local sailors were heading for the Stour or
Orwell. It was gusting to around 20 knots fromn the SW so after a quick
breakfast I headed down to Squiz Lane at The Manor taking Mag with me for
her daily walk arriving and parking easily at 9.10 in lovely sunshine. Mag
headed for home with a tail wind and things looked good for a fin, it was a
tad offshore it was hard to judge the strength but rigged my new Tushingham
Bolt 5.5 partnered with my F2 Ride Ride which proved pretty much ideal for
most of the session although it might have been a fraction faster with my
6.5 but I am loving the 5.5:) I usually sail to Wadgate post at least 8
times non-stop for my hour but as I was sailing alone, I do have a vhf
radio and the coastwatch Martello are keeping an eye open so you fell
fairly safe, I stayed a little closer to shore turning about a mile out in
the flatter water on the Wadgate break which was working well:) In fact it
was a really good session for gybing and got some crackers, mainly out to
sea. The session was best with the sun out but then it clouded over, only a
few drops of rain but it messed the wind up a little:( I had been out for
an hour and a half when the wind eased back and Ihad to wobble in, back to
the van for a quick snack and I was going to pack up but the wind filled in
so I had one more go hoping to sail 30 miles. I had my fastest mile and my
longest run gybing way past Wadgate Post, I was going for another long run
when the wind eased once more, this time I had trouble watersrtarting so
headed back and called it a day, the end of a great session, would have
been 5 stars if the wind had stayed up and I even managed to get home
before the heavy rain arrived! Then a quick shower, lunch and then a trip
to Lidl, not sure about windsurfing the next couple of days will wait and
see how windy it gets?
